Kelly at KellyNaturally.com wrote a post expressing the fine line we must walk, in advocating for families, women, and natural birth: the truth is, many of us DO have cesareans, and at the end of the day we are as blessed by birth as those who birth normally. Kelly reminds us to choose our words carefully, and celebrate birth in all its forms. She’s exactly right.
It every case, birth is one of the most precious, amazing, challenging, awesome, and MEMORABLE times in a woman’s life. Natural birth advocacy should always be about helping and lifting up women, not humiliation. Empowering women, not disenfranchising. Above all, supporting women, no matter what choices are made, what direction birth takes, what the outcome is.

I think the term 'natural birth' should be replaced with 'informed birth' because it is when women are bullied into birthing a certain way that their birth experiences become traumatic. When a woman is fully informed AND her caregivers RESPECT those decisions, the birth method would not be so disappointing. As long as the physical and emotional needs of both mom and baby are honored, whether it is a natural birth or not, it can be a joyful experience.
