Momzelle Nursing Wear: Review and Giveaway!

by melissa v. on December 10, 2011

Momzelle is one of those companies that you love to support.  Not only do they make good quality nursing tops, tunics, and dresses, but they are Canadian, owned and created by a breastfeeding mother and her entrepreneur brother, and won the Best Socially Minded Business award in 2010!  We are pleased to join together with Momzelle for our very first product review on Mothers of Change.

We held a contest (last spring!  It has taken awhile to get this underway, my apologies!) to select one Mothers of Change follower to review one of Momzelle’s products for us.  Momzelle has agreed to provide one of our readers with a $50 gift certificate for their online store as a part of our giveaway!  Aaron Abercrombie was happy to test out one of Momzelle’s products and write up the following review.  Thank you Aaron!

I was excited to learn that I won a nursing top from Momzelle through Mother’s of Change!  The news came to me just weeks after I gave birth to my fourth baby girl and at a time when my body image was not that great. It is that phase when the maternity clothes are too big but the old clothes are still too small. So, I was excited to receive a new shirt that might make me feel pretty and perhaps it would be functional as well!

Browsing the Momzelle website was exciting and within a short time I had picked out a fancy top with long sleeves. It was nice to have a variety of colors to choose from in this and other styles and especially nice that you could view the top in each color on the website. I had never purchased clothing online before so I was nervous about choosing a size, but the sizing guidelines were very useful. They suggested ordering the size that I would normally wear, keeping in mind that the clothes are made “with the postpartum figure in mind.” The shirt does fit fairly well although the sleeves are a little baggy and long. I found that the spandex in the fabric clung to my postpartum belly more than I would like as I would rather hide my rolls than show them off, but there was room to play with and bunch up the shirt around my waist so that it was not as obvious. The swag neckline also helped to draw attention away from my not so flattering belly!

It took some practice to get my baby latched on discreetly and I think I can still do it more easily by lifting up my shirt. However, it is nice to have my belly covered while nursing. It works especially well when I am wearing my baby wrap as I don’t have to try and pull up a shirt and then re-tuck it under the wrap after I’m done nursing.

Overall I would, and have recommended Momzelle to my mom friends. I even bought another item from the website for myself (it was a dress on-sale to wear to my baby’s baptism).
