We are a non-profit, Canadian consumer advocacy group for maternity care. We were founded in May 2010, and include mothers from across Canada, maternity care practitioners who support physiological birth, and other supportive members of the public.
Our founder and executive director is Asheya Hennessey, B. Ed., from Whitehorse, Yukon. Our board of directors is made of moms who are doulas, childbirth educators, perinatal nurses, midwifery student hopefuls, and moms who are passionate about optimal birth. Each mother goes on her own journey into birth, and makes the best choices she can for herself and her baby, given her circumstances, education, and support. The maternity care system is flawed, with practitioners encouraging mothers to make choices that have few benefits and great potential for harm. We work to change the system to support women in evidence-based best practices.
We are the voice of women in Canada refusing to accept less than optimal maternity care. We are the voice of women in Canada demanding our right to birth in environments that create the best possible chance of an uncomplicated, physiological birth. We are the voice of women in Canada who demand evidence-based, best practice maternity care.
